BalanceA dear friend of mine and I often joke about "finding the right balance" since that phrase has become a bit nettlesome. Close associations of mine often use that phase as if it is a great bit of wisdom. A bit like saying you've got this to encourage someone, or everything will be okay to console someone.

- Honesty is the middle ground between dishonesty and being overly blunt or insensitive in communication.
- Patience (virtue) - Impatience (vice) - Indifference (vice)
- Patience lies between impatience, which can lead to frustration, and indifference, which can demonstrate a lack of caring.
- Humility (virtue) - Arrogance (vice) - Self-deprecation (vice)

- Moderation (virtue) - Abstinence (vice) - Excess (vice)
- Moderation is the middle path between complete abstinence and indulging in excess in various aspects of life.
- Compassion (virtue) - Apathy (vice) - Over-identification (vice)
- Compassion involves caring and understanding without being apathetic or becoming too emotionally involved in others' problems.

These examples show how virtues often occupy a middle ground, striking a balance between two extremes to promote healthy and virtuous behavior.
